About

The Department of Science Education was established in 2011 within the Department of Elementary Education at the Faculty of Education, Yıldız Technical University, and began offering instruction in the 2012–2013 academic year with 47 students.

For countries to advance further in the fields of science and technology, they must have a strong educational infrastructure. This is because the first step in scientific research begins in elementary education. For this reason, the goal is to raise students—starting in elementary education—to become a generation that is inquisitive, critical, reflective, and productive. Science education plays a crucial role in fostering such a generation. In this context, our Department was established with the aim of training teachers who possess the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to provide education in this field; who are responsive to research; who foster a positive attitude; who possess a high level of scientific literacy; who can use technology efficiently; and who uphold national and spiritual values.

Prospective teachers who complete their undergraduate education in the Department of Science Education can take up positions at middle schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, private schools, and Science and Art Centers. In addition, graduates who continue their education at the master’s and doctoral levels may also serve as faculty members at universities.

In addition to the undergraduate program, our Department offers Master’s programs with and without a thesis in both Turkish and English, as well as a doctoral program.

The Department of Science Education has a total of 11 faculty members, including 5 professors, 3 associate professors, and 3 research assistants.
